Platte Valley Youth Services Center (PVYSC) in Greeley was a time when I was learning that teaching was career path I wanted to follow. As the Quilting and Sewing volunteer teacher, I was able to help these residents learn a useful skill, build confidence and participate in the Restorative Justice program. The Restorative Justice program gave them an opportunity to give back to the community by making baby blankets for fellow young incarcerated mothers who were leaving their children with family members or in the foster care program. The skills learned in this program were sewing by hand and machine, crotchet, fractions, and problem solving.
